Unexpected benefits from probiotic
02.25.2023

People who use probiotics (or yogurt containing probiotics) often have lower blood pressure, according to a new study published in the journal Hypertension.

The probiotic group (found in probiotics or yogurt) has long been known for its many effects from helping to regulate the digestive tract flora to support weight loss. A new study suggests that there may be another amazing effect of probiotics that people don't know about their ability to improve blood pressure.

The researchers analyzed 9 major studies with 543 patients, 8 of which used probiotic products to lower systolic blood pressure. Eight studies reported a decrease in diastolic blood pressure, although only 2 showed clinically significant results.

The researchers found that blood pressure dropped more sharply if the participants took yeast containing a variety of microorganisms. They suggest that these benefits may be greater in people with higher baseline blood pressure.

The authors suggest that the level of improvement with probiotics is equivalent to a reduction in salt intake by 2 grams per day. This could be a fundamental step towards enhancing cardiovascular benefits for the community.
