Diseases of the nose and throat are common in cold weather
01.18.2023

Colds, flu, bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses are very common during the cold months, causing people to experience a runny nose, cough, and other symptoms. People stay indoors more often, making it easier for the virus to spread from person to person.

If you often cough and sneeze in the winter, here are some suggestions to help you identify symptoms and treat them appropriately.

Common cold

More than 200 viruses can cause colds, the most common being nasal viruses. When you cough, sneeze, or touch surfaces such as doorknobs that can spread the virus.

Most people are contagious for about a week before the onset of symptoms such as a runny nose, itchy throat, low-grade fever, fatigue, chills, and aches. Sneezing and coughing are also more frequent. Wash your hands often and avoid close contact with others until you have finished coughing and sneezing.

Flu

You can get the flu virus from droplets in the air when you sneeze, cough, or touch contaminated surfaces. The flu virus infects the respiratory tract (mouth, nose, throat, and lungs) of an infected person. The person may feel exhausted, feverish, body aches, sneezing, coughing, sore throat , and headache. Vomiting or diarrhea may also occur.

Fever and aches may persist after 3-5 days. Cough and general fatigue can last two weeks or more. Symptoms may be relieved with rest, fluids, and medication. If symptoms get worse, you may have new symptoms, or are at risk of flu complications, you should see your doctor.

Acute bronchitis

Acute bronchitis occurs when the bronchi (large tubes that carry air to the lungs) become inflamed. Cold or flu viruses can cause bronchitis, so getting a flu shot can reduce your risk of getting sick. Smoking or having allergies, sinusitis, tonsils... increases the risk of bronchitis.

The person may begin with a dry cough and then develop a productive cough. You may also experience aches and pains, chills, headache, runny nose, sore throat , shortness of breath, watery eyes, and wheezing. Most symptoms can last for two weeks, although the cough can last for several months.

Pneumonia

Viruses cause more cases of pneumonia than bacteria and fungi. People who are weakened by surgery, disease, age or smoking are in a higher risk group than the general population.

A lung infection causes the air sacs to fill with pus and other fluids. Severity of mild to life-threatening symptoms can include confusion, fever, cough with phlegm, profuse sweating, chills, loss of appetite, rapid breathing and pulse. The shortness of breath gets worse with activity and the sharp pain in the chest worsens with coughing or taking a deep breath.

With ingredients containing Ambroxol, it has the effect of dissolving mucus and thinning phlegm. Halixol helps in the treatment of obstructive airway diseases caused by the proliferation of mucus and phlegm. Products are imported from Europe and distributed by Ben Tre Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, trusted by people for nearly 10 years.

Read the instructions for use carefully, consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.
